Rising Above Your Raising

proclivity to get in sight of the finish line Just to shoot myself in the foot Ancestraly handed down generations upon next misguided to safely stay put Regardless of condition in situ As I reach for dreams that beckon afar The lesson engraved on my genome don't be silly Who do you think you are Do it anyway after all what's the worse that can be said As you buck this curse See, we told you so You never learn We sent you to school for your books to burn

A very evocative read, Vickey. Rising above my raising is something I have tried to do for all of my adult life...but I would never burn a book...

Me either Jim.That sounds like something only the fearful would come up with.Sometimes in least expected places wisdom is gleaned.I believe each adult capable of deciding for themselves. As to children and their exposure to whatever in print as per our subject,I believe it is imperative that adults in their influential sphere be aware of and be able to have a reasonable conversation about what may effect some of their ever so malleable minds. Some are born following the beat of their own drums and immune to peer ,cultural, or societal pressure in any form. Thanks for the read and comment.
