Reflections

The promise and the pain of yesteryear Come rushing back as I retrace my steps Though time has passed, I see them, oh, so clear And take a mental pause , where tears were wept At crossroads I see faces join and part Recalling circumstances good and bad Then feel the heaviness upon my heart To lose my only brother and my dad And then I come back to reality A mother who no longer knows her son The sands of time, sandblasting memories She sees their faces in her setting sun The thought is bittersweet, ironically But smile because I know they'll wait for me. by Daniel Turner

A sad sonnet of memories that hurt. Loved ones gone and decisions that perhaps you would have made differently given the chance again.

Thank you, Alfred. Not sure I would change the past, even if I could. It is all a part of what makes me, me:)

Your sonnet is as beautiful and heartfelt as ever Daniel. The emotions are pure poetry, with every word, the imagery you paint is poignant and understood on a deeply soulful level. One that lingers and stays in the forefront of memory, after several reads. The 'hope' sprinkled throughout is lovely, a truly loving piece penned by an amazing loving poet:) lynnxxx I am thrilled for you that you are back and writing! I hope you are taking good care of you, you were missed a bunch :-)

It is comforting to know that you will meet up with loved ones again. I am really looking forward to it when it is my time to go. There is such sadness in your poem Daniel. This happened to my two female cousins. Their mother no longer knew who they were. It is a heartbreaking disease. My best friend, no longer remembers me and thinks I am Janet, a mutual friend. I want her back. So sorry for you Daniel. Hugs, Connie : )7

There's not much worse than having to watch someone diminish slowly. I am the remaining one in my family, and hold onto that comfort that "We'll meet again."

Dear Danny...so glad to see you back! Sad but hopeful poem. I'm in almost the same place as you and I understand. But, as you eluded to, this life is just a stepping stone to that beautiful reunion. Wonderful poem. Keep the faith, dear friend.

It is sad when they don't recognize you anymore...When you look in their eyes it is as the feelings have already passed....Missed you my friend...My prayers are with you.

I am so very glad to see you back, even though I know the sadness in your words. But the sonnet you have written is so incredibly beautiful, warm and gentle. The iambic pentameter gives that soft natural rhythm to the sonnet.

Daniel, Reflections can be happy and sad, but the important thing is that you've come to terms with reality and patiently wait for your time to come.Great poem.
