Listen to poem:
The walking wounded stroll among us;
they drag their feet come rain or shine,
wandering aimlessly and feeling blue.
They seek and recognize their kind;
they spot the tears behind their smile,
and, when asked, compare old battle scars.
The walking wounded find their strength
desperately when and where they can
but they’ve forgotten how and why to love.
The walking wounded do their best to heal,
to numb each other’s pain and fill their void
~ and some of us might call that love.
