Rainy Summers Eve
Rainy Summer's Eve
I step out from my sanctuary
Into the stillness of a night so fair
As I walk, I feel a gentle breeze
Making the leaves dance in the air
I follow this path, I walk many times
So familiar, that lay before me
A gentle rain begins to fall so softly
That each droplet it seems, I see
My steps, though steady and determined
Do not hurry, nor do they slow down
Each drop of rain, increases in intensity
Stirring, awakening the dry still ground
I raise my collar, the hood of my coat
To cover and ward off the rain, my shield
Perhaps all this a simple expectation
Of some torrent of rainfall that may yield
I listen to the rhythmic beat of the rain
Upon the shroud above my head
I stop and listen to the soothing sound
And close my eyes, thoughts unsaid
I feel a chill, though I don't feel the cold
Somehow feeling warmth inside
I notice the droplets fall from my hood
These memories in me that reside
I stop and stand still in this gentle rain
Noting every droplet upon my brow
Feeling this strange serenity, come over me
Soothing my body and soul, somehow
That I should take pause in this moment
While others run to seek shelter, refuge
Finding a blessing, that has been gifted
In all storms and memories, a deluge
How I do love a warm summers rain
Quiets my racing mind, once again
Where I find all my serenity reins
Where no pain and sorrow remains
