Rain
This city has seen dry days,
the injustice of rainless-ness with strengthening rays.
June’s just begun to threaten with waves
packed in pavement pounded by feet
hidden in cracks of sidewalk laid back
in haze and in heat
until today’s forecast spotted my face
umbrellas marched by
I stayed in the rain.
I’d forgotten the sound of a city when wet
and no matter how fast,
cars getting hit.
Rain falls equally on all.
And when it stops, we smell the sewer—
the urban drains’ petrichor.
