Quite a Stretch

Two young wrens sat on a wire side by side. Then one bird stretched her wings ever so wide. The other bird grabbed the tip of her wing, And she began to scream, poor little thing. Pulling much harder, he wouldn't let her go, But lost his grip when she moved to and fro. Angered and miffed, she flew to a small branch. He chirped his regrets to beg a next chance. And the following day, she did just that... He began to walk, she began to trail Close enough to yank some feathers from his tail.

I like this one! It has a playful, almost fable-like quality to it. The imagery of the two wrens interacting is charming, and the twist at the end adds a touch of humor and mischief.

Yes, I did add the ending, but I observed the bad bird. I don't think marriage is in their future. Thank you for reading.

I'm all in for "you do me, I do you." Sometimes that's the only way for it not to repeat itself.

I see you have caught on to the secret if birds. They don't always get along.

Love the angst in this poem! Yup, dare to pull on someone’s wings and you might have to suffer the next day’s revenge! I would tease my daughter’s dog (one her husband owned before she married him). Well, I quickly found out how much smarter he is then I am. Needless to say I don’t do that anymore…lol

Animals are smart. Birds are funny, at times.

Tit for tat... ! Love this wren story. How happy they would have been if they sat together and flew together, instead of playing such mischief.

This is so cute and i love how descriptive it is along with the rhymes sweet hilda, i always enjoy reading your poems, they have an authentic voice that resonates and leaves an echoing whisper even after the read. I especially love the lines “ Angered and miffed, she flew to a small branch. He chirped his regrets to beg a next chance.” Somehow that gave an evocative touch and one that made me feel deeply! Hope holidays are treating you well and kind! Sending you light today and always
