Psychedelic

There are colors that please the eyes: Rainbows, sunsets, and a sunrise On psychedelic, I can't gaze Without recalling careless days. Ponytails, psychedelic shirts Flower girls in long, faded skirts Hippies searching in mushroom clouds Anti-war protests drawing crowds Talk of love is everywhere Psychic wisdom floats in the air Peace and love in every song Thinking all the world can be one While in the flower fields afar Youths die fighting another war.

Congrats on your POTW for a lovely sonnet. Yes - I've read all about the flower power people, their peaceful protests and love songs - in fact I think that the Musical 'Hair' was all about them and the song Aquarius was about a new age to come. So sad that a lot of young men had to go to the senseless Vietnam war, which no one won anyway. Maria

Thank you, Maria. All our talk of peace and love couldn't keep war at bay.

I was only two in 69 but this was a part of my life for sure riding the hip of a hippie mom. Love the descriptions the imagery and how love was a part of the movement in hopes. Also the last contracting lines are thought provoking! Great potw! Congratulations!

' Hippies searching in mushroom clouds, anti-war protests drawing crowds. ' I don't recall these days, because I wasn't here then, but I've heard many stories about it. Groovy poem, Ann. Congratulations on Poem of the Week. My best to you. :) Hugs, Brandy

Dear Ann, oh my this took me back to my teen days and the flower power of the era. I had my first multicolor wide bell bottoms in 1969. I am also a veteran of the Vietnam Era. You poem said it so well that we as youth are the ones who fight the wars. A wonderful POTW! Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Thank you, Daniel. And thank you for serving our country! I wanted to remind how peace and love were everywhere except where the youths were dying every day fighting a war.
