Protect and Serve - For the Men and Women In Blue
What is strength if not compassion
For the weak and those in need,
Does a smile not show more prowess
Than a fist that makes you bleed.
Is a weapon the first answer
In every situation fraught,
Or will wise words spoken with purpose
Achieve some better lesson taught.
There are times and there are places
When action needs be strong and swift,
But once the task’s accomplished
The mood can mellow, spirits lift.
Life’s road is curved and narrow,
Its jagged path all need to walk,
Some stagger on the margins,
Yet to our aid they often balk.
But knowledge is our answer
Empathy a tool,
Protect and serve our calling
Integrity our rule.
