poverty in the thirties

The young mother could not afford all of her children. She decided to farm some out to her cousins and neighbors. They had agreed to stay around the area. But factories closed, and the town commerce died. These families could not keep their promise to the young widow. They moved away, taking three of her six children. The three children she kept felt fear all of their lives. Believing they would be taken from their mother. The children who left had psychological damage. Wondering why their parents had abandoned them. What had they done wrong? A messed-up family that never felt right after Daddy died.
