Poetic Practice

The poet is a physician of sorts tending care to the physical of his craft -- His patients, the hearts and souls of humanity -- Latching belts on sleds of words a-summit he descends, precariously no safe tracks when in lyric free-fall Altitudes and scathing depths are the wails and screeches of his siren journey down -- when and where, a dicey pit travel...critics offer no parachutes...and his lovers often unavailable, amending their own wrong steps. Can a writer really make it safely to the other side, through the creative pressures of ever revolving mantles and imperative crushing cores!?

Hi Joe! I quit writing, all writing, in 1983, for 35 years, even tho i’d been getting published, won NJ state young writer’s award + 2 other fellowships. Even had an agent ( more harm than good), quit because the diving poetry needs, at age 31: was too painful, as you touch on here. In 2019, i met a young poet who said 2 me,he rather die than go 1 day without poetry,..you can see on my list the date i joined PSoup. Thank you for your poem’s message! Love! sally

I have often admired your poetry, some of the finest poetry I have ever read; and know, this type of impressive work, could only come from someone who lives poetry, has dedicated every ounce of being to the process and mystical outcome. Hi Hilda; thank you so much for the positive feedback. As you know, we write, throw our hearts against the wall, hoping some will stick and yet resemble a heart. Have a beautiful day my poetic friend.

Truthful poetic answer. The poet is a seeker forever. Creativity is daring and uncharted.

I am so sorry to hear that. I know how much you loved your little cat. I know you must be heartbroken. They are family. I have never forgotten the pets I have been forced to put down to end their suffering. My prayers are with you. Praying the angels comfort you during this very sensitive time. I believe there is also a cat heaven as well...and your kitty will be lovingly attended.

You've so incredibly described the essence infused in the journey of being a poet! Poetry makes one a healed of own thoughts, while preparing a cathartic atmosphere for other wandering souls, but as the dimension gets broader and technicalities seem to fuse, it's not easy to sail through such stormy seas. "Ever evolving mantles" How rightly you've described that! Absolutely thought-provoking and evocative! "Crushing cores" Ah, indeed... it's therapeutic tunes come with a price! Writers burn their souls and what is received after that, is pure gold... Stunningly crafted!
