Pill Poppers

Seems like we've all become A nation of ruddy pill poppers A pill for this, a pill for that Even sex, now that's the topper How did it finally come to this? The doctors are making a killing Prescribing a pill for a hang nail And patients are only willing Always trusted, the family doctor Upstanding pillar of society That was then, this is now Seems like a lack of propriety The code of ethics that used to be Are forthwith being ignored In favour of that almighty dollar An outgrowth we can ill afford Old rules have been abandoned It's all about the bottom line Say bye bye to professional ethics From another place and time © Jack Ellison 2013

I'll say it... AMEN! Thanks Wayland for a "whale" of a bunch of very interesting comments! Cheers, my good friend!

Haha this now counts as two comments, I got a quota to meet. Anyway the care is so much more personal. I mean really I'm not a christian science guy, actually not really either of those terms, but the body does heal naturally, and I'm 99% sure at times I have basically been given something by the doctor so that they thought they did their job, not truly knowing what was wrong. You are right, really ethical concerns are saved for black and white issues and ignored constantly on a day to day basis

I'm not either also... to each his own though! I truly believe your statement about the bod healing itself! Doctors are humans too and the lure of big dollars is why they became doctors! Kinda cynical eh... sorry, don't mean to paint them all with such a broad brush!

Oh how true these words are. To continue my Mexican theme. I used to go to the hospital in mexico. One, I would literally pay less for the visit, than my co-pay. I would get blood work in like an hour. I would never spend more than about 2 hours from visit to diagnosis. I had been diagnosed wrong on two occasions and still would go now if I lived close. They talk to you, spend time, making sure you have no further questions.

I guess it would be "pay as you go" then I imagine but sounds like a great alternative. Living in Canada, we're covered for most medical things by the government by funds they've been collecting from us all our working days! It actually works though! Illness doesn't destroy us financially!

The brutal truth, my friend! We wouldn't need so many pills if the food we ate was actually "alive" at some point, instead of concocted and packaged in some factory. When I get feeling down I much rather let my body take care of itself then slowly whither away taking the so called "medicine" at the pharmacy. *sigh*... the world we live in...

Yup! I'm afraid it's the way it is today! Don't know if you've heard, I've been on a life style change since the beginning of last June and have dropped close to 50 pounds! Never actually been on any long term pill regime. At 77, one of the lucky dudes I guess!

I must say dearest Jack your new avatar looks like you've popped a couple of those pills..haha....loved the poem and all you do always...

I am in Pre-med right now, Jack. You don't have too much feelings for doctors? Does everyone feel this way? I hope not. Do agree with you that some people are on too many pills. It's a wonder that they don't clash with each other. Great one!

Their reputation that's prevalent today is not the same as it once was. Of course there are still doctors that live by the same code of ethics they all once had but time has change things... my personal take! Good luck dear friend! xoxox

Actually not sure yet! My youngest unmarried son may be buying in Richmond Hill just north of Toronto to be closer to his place of employment... hopefully with a "granny flat" for us. Not wild about being so close to the big city but the alternative is renting an apartment in Burlington. Still up in the air.. may still happen! Hmmmm... Kelowna? LOL Who knows?

Before retiring, I was quite involved with the pharmaceutical industry as a designer of their advertisers. So I have an inside look at the workings of pharmaceutical companies and doctors in general. There are exceptions of course but in my view, doctors have lost that status they once had! Sorry, been busy, Rick... selling the house! Wish me luck!

Oh you've noticed that too! They think it makes 'em sound clever and smart and knowledgeable... wrong! It makes them sound cranky and arrogant!
