Fear haunted me, taunted me, daunted me. I was not the overcomer, but the overcome. Fear played with me the way a kitten might toy with a mouse, eventually leaving the mouse despondent, discouraged, darkened by the cold, black dread that was a living horror, one that sought to awaken the nightmares of the soul. This fear that I struggled with was like a dripping faucet. It was constantly reminding me that I would never know the quietness of a mind who is peaceful and flowing with serenity. I was a bundle of nerves. Anxieties colored my thoughts in electrifying shades of black and I couldn’t hold back the whispers inside my head that told me I would be better off dead. This was a living hell even though I knew, deep down, that the real hell was much worse. Finally, there were pills created to ruin mania and depression, the screams of darkness that pillaged my soul with devastating fears and fright that fought to feed me to the wolves, to a slow and solemn death. With the pills, there were prayers prayed to the One who would eventually lead me out of the darkness into the light and the insight that taught me love was a living, breathing embrace from the heart of God and I was His child, one who would learn to praise Him in the storms and find my solace from every fear in the warmth of His love. I believe that fear, instead of hate, is the opposite of love and when we take the hand of the One who is love the dance of life awakens the most beautiful joy within so we can finally leave all that fear in its darkness and move into the light, the love that is our most precious gift.
Wipe away your fears
Cry the last of troubled tears
Know God and know peace
