Now Departing, Soon Arriving
Winter's arrival signals my departure
hidden by soft snow in the ground
When Spring returns, I emerge from hard mud
on sidewalks and in plush flowerbeds
I'd love to warm myself, to lay in the sun
but I'm on the look-out twenty-four/seven
for a worm's sworn enemy, the dreaded bird
Discretion, please: Shh! ~ Don't breathe a word
