Not nicking my coat
I just commented on a school friends Facebook post (she likes to wish the world happy birthday in one go, so I nabbed it and put it in my pocket for December), she messaged me immediately to say she'd been thinking about me as I've been absent on Facebook a long time. She was an intermittent friend in primary school as me and her best friend didn't get on. She was the best at handstands and could do the crab. Occasionally I'd go to her house after school, her parents had divorced and she'd let herself in and make her own tea (dinosaur feet shaped pizzas - I was impressed and amazed at such a delightful meal), make cut off shorts just by cutting up her jeans, brilliant! She had a computer and loads of Barbie's from her Dad and was on the cusp of going off the rails. I got in trouble when my auntie saw me playing in an abandoned stolen car with her, but she was funny and interesting and seemed to see more in me than perhaps my goodie two shoes exterior gave away.
In high school she did go off the rails, she'd chat about court appearances and her Dad paying her fines off. A world I have no clue about. I remember chatting in the park during lunch at school and I had a new leather bomber jacket on and she said the only reason she hadn't nicked it was because she liked me so much - sweet!
After leaving school I occasionally saw her at bus stops and she'd set up her own catering business, then got married, had children. She had a phase of putting random wigs on her baby shared via Facebook that I was totally on board with.
When I shared a few of my mixed media crafts and said I was thinking of doing a craft stall she immediately bought three and insisted I double the price. I did the craft stall and sold pretty much everything. I set up an Instagram and she showed her friends and ordered 10 more, then more again later. Whilst encouraging me to stop pricing low and to do more craft stalls. I think I made at least a grand profit and gained a lot of confidence doing the craft project, with other online sales, placement in a shop and several craft markets. Plus I'd occasionally take them into work and have a flurry of activity and £100 to show for it, same at the baby groups. So I should thank Emma for that because I always think I'm rubbish.
I think she's a plumber now and still bolshy, but beautifully so.
Maybe I'll cut myself some slack today on the self worth front. Thank you Emma x
