My Dearest
My Dearest love Martha,
As I begin to write you, my ink flows from my pen
like my tears for you. A man's duty they say is to fight. I have no choice.
Each step I take takes me futher away. The love I have for you is stronger then any war. Do not cry for me I shall return. Your smile echos in my memories. The soft way you look and tilt your head each morning you greet me.
Look to the sun and say a pray for me. Close your eyes remember our candle light wishes and the sweet kisses we shared underneath the moon. We shall play like children again and throw pebbles in the fountain. When I make the last wish it will be never to leave your side. For my heart is complete when I am near you. The spirit to be free is strong in each of men's hearts. But to be truly loved is a man's wish. I have found this in you. I will cherish and honor you forever.
The sun is now melting into darkness I must now sleep. I will dream of you until our spirits are linked I leave a poem to you.
I hear an angel call
A calling for everyone
Their's no more time to waste
And their will never be no more crying from a child's eyes
In the midst of the night
We will be free
In the midst of the night
We will see
I knew I had to prepare to fight
I wrote you a poem
Only a few lines not much more
For I couldn't go on
I told you if I make it
We'll be together
In the midst of the night
We will stand tall
With the glory and the flag at hand
In the midst of the night
We shall be freed.
Amen
Your loving husband.
George
* I was trying to capture what George Washington might of wrote to his Martha. When America was new and a lot of things were uncertain.
George Washington is one of my favorite President. I admire his courage, manners, diplomacy and bravery.
