Mechanic blind, fixes Gundagai bind'
In the 1970s early two contractors worked around
Southern 'New South Wales' and Gundagai town.'
Stationed at the riverside park, at the rear of a garage
With pit and pumps all as part, now Tom and Matt
Got a surprise..One of their machines got shuggared
Inside.' You might know of what i talk? A compeditor
Wanted their buisness to walk.' Its still a mystery to
This day' who did the dirty..Shall we say, and at the time
A contract was to start, but on telling the owner of garage
And park, Matt was told as he passed onto, that evening
The son who ran the workshop, could be consulted upon
How long it would take? Thats if he could fit in cleaning
This engine damaged within, all the had been cut to pieces
Around four feet in sections, so whoever had ment to do damage serious.' The very next day Tom walked over to
Matt, g'day mate he said..Hows it look? Where are we at
Well I really don't know? To be straight said Matt this mans
Son said he'd help.' Yet he's blind as a bat.' Like he wears
Glasses Tom cut in..No they'd be no help, Tom real blind
Thats the thing.' How long will it take thats my thought he
Go's by feel he's completely self taught, he told me any
Studys he did in braille, It could take a month.? And will
Our ship even sail? He said he's real busy but feels its
Wrong what was done, so he'd put us forward..Well what
Else can go wrong.? Well we'll have to manage with my
Machine it it takes a month,? Thats now the scene' I mean
I offered to help him but he wasn't too keen' Tom said at
Least you tried lets leave it with lets order new hoses.'
We'll have to dip in the bin.' Conversation over they
Wen't to bed agreeing an early tommorow the sky was red'
At the week end the owner came calling told them to see
His son.' They thought maybe it was too appalling.?
When they entered the garage that machine was humming
This blind mechanic's work was stunning the thing looked
Better than ever before..And his price was modest..They
Offered him more' look take double mate your worth each
Cent.' No you got treated bad and you're paying dad rent
I didn't feel happy it happened in my town, whoever it was
Let Gundagai down.' Well i've pulled it apart and cleaned
Each tube, as far as engines go, its health should stayj rude
They said you're one i a million mate, no one could do
Better, you fingers worked wonders, to the T if not better
We're glad to know you. Your a credit to this town twenty
Galah's like the one who did this.' Won't damage its
Reknown.' Well they often told that tale o'er the years how
A hero mechanic, allayed any fears, how they did the job
And paid their way, thanks to an everyday hero down
Gundagai way.'
