Maturity
The thinning hair, graying
The wrinkled brow
Evidence of passing years
The eyes reflecting
Patient knowing
Of defeats
Of humiliations
Of adversities surpassed
In life's struggle,
Reflections
Of days of triumph
When the race was won
And the true few
Rejoiced with him
In the exhilaration of his victory
While enemies smiled
With daggers cloaked,
Reflections
Of the pleasant years
Of youthful face
Of inquiring mind
And romantic dreams
Of beautiful girls
Exuberance and vanity mixed
And in the mist
Over the ocean
The seagull sometimes cried
For the river,
Peaceful solitude
Contemplation
Wisdom he holds
In the palm
Of his and
While the eyes
Of his mind
Sees the beautiful face
Of the truth.
