For Manifesto Contest

by Hilo Poet

My manifesto is really quite brief. All I want is to find some relief from hate and anger that permeates when life is what we need to celebrate. "Happy New Year! Yeah, I know The same to you. Sorry, gotta go. Can't we at least talk some tonight. Nah, you'd just insist you were right." Togetherness is not what we show These days under the mistletoe Things can get rosy or turn to dust But this is certain: we must find trust We no longer know who we can believe. It seems everyone has a scam up his sleeve. There are some words that need to disappear for they definitely are not music to our ear! While we're at it, TV's ethics have all flown: Some things are just better left unshown. And, if you promote yourself as "THE NEWS: just give us the facts, don't fiddle and abuse. We need to acknowledge another's plight not let their journey shadow our sight We need to listen to words we don't know accepting those unlike us can help us grow. We need to sit alone in the soft quiet and listen to the lovely sounds of night; treasure moments for time travels fast keep them close, for they'll soon be past. I didn't mean to offend anyone, I hope that is clear Here comes Tomorrow, have a Happy New Year! 8th Place!

Beautifully stated Ann. Trust in the last bastions to uphold water tight principles that working democracies rely on is sadly being eroded. It's as if this world is eating itself from the inside. Yet there has to be hope too. ...Here's hoping.. Cheers - Gary

Thanks, Gary. You're so right! A lot of democracies are suffering right now. I've written one about global warming but I haven't been able to find the right word to replace pomposity. It's descriptive but it really shouts :) I read England is questioning the need for royalty. So many problems and too many answers. I'm going to read some of your poetry now to soothe my soul. Take care, Ann

Congratulations! Yes, there is too much hate and anger going on. It seems communication does not even work anymore. But, there are still beautiful people in the world with good intentions helping the poor and the needy.

Yes, there are good people. A good example: the firefighters from other states volunteering to help fight the dangerous LA fire! Thanks so much for commenting!

Thank you, Tom! So nice of you to say that. I wish we could catch our decency that seems to have run away.

Oh Dear Susan of the Lovely Thoughts. I tell everyone about your poetry. When my son comes with printer ink, I want to make 3 copies for friends. Is that OK? I will put your name on them. I've told them how to go to PS but I guess they think it's too much trouble.?? Thank you so much for liking my poetry. I hope the New Year is kind and has many blessings for you, dear friend.
