Lovng Day

Loving Day When Richard and Mildred fell in love, their fate was decided by a judge. For he was white and she was black, their marriage broke Virginia's Integrity Act. Forced to move to Washington DC, they opposed the ruling in 1963. In 1967, a supreme court ruled that Richard and Mildred Loving could live together, as an interracial married couple in their own state of Virginia, and declared that the law prohibiting this was unconstitutional. June 12 is National 'Loving Day', when many Americans continue to celebrate the freedom to marry a person of another race. Festivals, barbecues, parties are held, to show that love knows no bound.

Without the Loves, fighting for justice Karen, two of my beautiful grandchildren would not exist. They live in California, and my daughter and her husband happily live there with no racist inuendo at all (so far). Our daughter was brought up never to pay attention to a persons skin eye or hair colour (unless it was blue or purple) and they are very happy. Thank God for the Loves and their history making fight for justice. your poem is well written and the story is magnificent.

Hi Karen. This is a timely story. Sad how relevant it is even today in Virginia and elsewhere. I encourage you to follow your muse and keep writing. I'm partial to rhyme and rhythm with good flow; you have a unique mix of forms. Best.

You've put this one as rhyme but it's more narrative I think. There's lots to explore in what you've written. I found it helpful entering the contests and I gradually pick up the poetry forms and play around with free verse but others forms too and see where it takes me. Good luck
