Love Is Not Always Love, Part I

I hear folks say it, “Love is love,” a mantra they like to repeat, it’s said with such vapid sureness you’d think it was bleatings of sheep. But if you stop to think of it, turn the thought over in your mind, your reaction will be more mixed, and many problems you will find. It’s difficult to think, indeed, that something normally so good could ever lead people astray, since it doesn’t feel like it should. We love our ids, we love our dogs, and our spouses (most of the time), love brings meaning to existence, our poems declare it sublime, we’re encourage to love people outside in a platonic way, we even say our God is Love, it seems to enliven our days. But just because some is quite good, does not mean more will be better, love the wrong way, or the wrong thing, and you’ll be in for rough weather. Love your children a bit too much and they will find themselves smothered, their decision-making skills lost to the devouring mother. Love your children in the wrong way and they will throw your ass in jail, which, honestly, you will deserve, because that sh-t’s beyond the pale. Love tasty food a bit too much and you’ll find yourself overweight, for that wrong love you will go to your grave at an earlier date. Love sex more than a person should, you’ll descend into decadence, your girlfriends and child support will see all of your money spent. Love possessions more than you should you’ll fall to greed and avarice, and we’ve all seen how much damage can be done by people like this. Fall in love too much with ideas, and make them the point of the state, you’ll kill millions pursuing them, like socialists and all their graves. Love a child in the wrong way you’ll be hated by everyone, and, unless you’re from Hollywood, you’ll be locked up, shanked in prison. Love a dream a little too much, even when it’s clear it won’t work, reality will smack you down, lies to yourself will make you hurt. Live someone who is the same sex, it may not seem to hurt that much, yet too much and we stop breeding, and civilization is f-cked. Love this world and all of its joys, you’ll see through it, find it empty, then sink down to nihilism, your whole life cheapened and demeaned. Love the mind and glorify it and soon you can rationalize, since everything seems relative any evil becomes just fine. Love yourself more than a man should, think that you stand above the Earth, and ‘lesser’ folks, or God himself, will painfully show your true worth... CONCLUDES IN PART II.
