Lives On the Line
The veteran stands with hand to head
As flag goes passing by
He does his best to hold his ground
While trying not to cry
He thinks about the time he spent
Defending foreign soil
Fighting for the right to life
For those that have the oil
Desert winds and mortal sins
His morals stripped away
Stomach wrenched and trigger clenched
Was how he spent his day
People buy their tiny flags
And wave them in the air
They cheer like fans at marching bands
And marvel at the fair
But which of them would take a gun
And kill another soul
From somewhere far across the way
And say it's freedoms toll
Hatred of this union
Is a thing that we all fear
Bless the soldiers courage
'Cause he holds our freedom dear
His mother and his father
His family and his friends
He does the things he has to do
Ensuring there's no end
He puts his life upon the line
Each and every day
The only way to thank him
Is to bow our heads and pray
It's God that brought us to this land
Where we can all be free
He sent us stronger spirits
To defend our sanctity
So think about our soldiers
That you know you'll never meet
And pray for them as they defend
The soil beneath our feet
