Life In the Desert
Through the door of the adobe shelter
while sacred Palo Santo scent rises and wafts
to greet the coyotes as they yip and yelp
in praise to their pack among
the strength of the great saguaro.
Purples and pinks and oranges
paint the vast sky
One last time before
the great moon rises
and the star's twinkle
while the desert sleeps.
Inside, the fire crackles
celebrating the day through
song and conversation
knowing that the day is over
and the anticipation of morning
Is near, giving birth to new beginnings, new life.
The desert hare scurry among
the Teddy Bear Cactus.
Palo Verde support the quail
as the great hawk circles the land
and the owls follow their path
while the arid breeze gently
provides relief for all.
Deer and Javelina's travel the wash
in search for vegetation
among the brush and thorns
and an occasional rain drenches the earth
to provide relief to desert life
replenishing with renewal...in the desert.
