Last Christmas
Last Christmas Day I sat down to weep,
watched as snow fell burying the earth cold and deep,
Last Christmas day I waited in vain,
sitting alone while my tears fell like rain.
My lover was fighting so far away,
and could not come home to share Christmas Day,
caught in a war I knew so little about,
as I sat all alone with no cheers to shout.
Christmas is coming yet again without you at home,
now you lie buried so cold and alone,
I still have my memories of good times gone by,
Yet I keep asking God to tell me why.
So Christmas for widows is a very sad day,
it makes us recall how the war tore you away,
standing beneath the bright twinkling lights,
we all pray for peace and wish you all a goodnight.
