Land of Fire
*Author's note. I wrote this one after listening to this awesome instrumental song. It inspired this poem here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5sqs1AB0-Q
So, imagine that you're an elf and watching your home (the forest) burn down around you as you read this.
Hopelessness burdens our souls
Onwards we march, driven from our homes
A child looks back, as her mother plays the silent role
The great forest burning as the elves roam.
A single elf remains watching,
As their lush homeland is turned to ashes
Emotions linger, hidden under the surface
A single tear, the only sign of her pain
She silently curses, mourning her lost home
The beauty of the land, marred beyond measure
Her throat burns as she aches within
The human eye, to never see the grief therein
She casts her gaze to the stars
And two simple words faintly caress the twilight air
“If only….”
If only greed was not a part of this world
If only darkness did not dwell in the hearts of men
If only, those lonely words the embodiment of all her thoughts
If only, she whispers as she turns
Hiding the pain within as the forest burns
The elves beloved home no more
And the lonely words softly spoken
“If only….”
