Just Seven Stars Away
'Twas just a little house below a hill
Where flowers bloomed on the windowsill
There together a family lived
Daddy, mother, and one little kid.
Daddy, assistant branch manager
Handsome and tall, determined and sure
Together, he and his wife made a pair
One they were, true a sight that is rare.
Young wife and mother, police officer
True, noble, brave, respect was due her
Twenty-four, with black, shining, curly hair
Sparkling blue eyes, flashing smile rare.
Dancing down all eleven stairs
In her black uniform, with a bit of a flair
Ready to save lives she dashed to her squad
There to arrest any crooks, and on lookout for fraud.
Hubby and son watched her go
Tomorrow to go see the land of Lego
Pride in his eyes daddy looked
From mother to son, how alike they looked!
In a little home aflame with light
They waited alone till late at night
Not a step their solitude broke
Daddy was silent, so it was the son who spoke.
"Daddy, where is mummy?" he whimpered
Daddy didn't say the things he feared
"Don't worry, son, she'll be back."
He feared as he spoke and prayed for that.
Morning dawned over the little town
Daddy, during the night the truth he'd found
He bent over the form of his beloved one
For her, deaths' angel had come.
Little Junior, in artless grief
Wept as he laid on her breast a woven wreath
She was gone, on earth to live no more
His heart was broken, and it bled sore.
Never again her arms they'll be
Never again laughing 'round the Christmas tree
She was killed in service, as duty called
By a desperate man's hand had she been falled.
Little home circle, broken now
Little son asks constantly,"Daddy, how?"
Daddy has no answer, his son he takes
And presses him close to a heart that aches.
"Daddy, where is mummy?" he asks
Everyday, as he goes about his tasks
"Mummy's only Seven Stars away."
Daddy says, "We'll all together again someday."
Seven Stars! Seven Stars away,
To four year old Junior is a lifetime away
But seventeen years later finds him twenty-one
And his mother would find an image of herself in her son.
Daddy is older, and a little gray
His beloved young wife, he thinks of everyday
Never has he forgotten the horrors of that night
He's recovered, been seventeen years of life.
Seven Stars! Seven Stars away!
This to each other, they often say
They live, this dream in their hearts,
Of the day they'll be with mummy, never to part.
