In Between
In Between
By Kevin Robey

Bite my lip, to get through the pain
Might as well, I guess it’s all the same
Today or tomorrow, results are consistent
And here I was, hoping to feel different
It’s days like today, I think of the final solution
But when I speak of this, you call it noise pollution
Days like today I wonder, what waits for us at the end?
I fear thoughts like these, will soon become a trend
I think of life, on those final days
Where resolve unravels and frays
I hope you’ll find a way to forgive me
When I finally fulfill that final fantasy
With eyes closed shut you cry, but I smile
No regrets, already went that extra mile
Let’s speak of the fear, no longer reigns
Filed it away, the true source of my pain
Now I’m free of this all consuming plague
Sorry if I seem more than a little vague
Am I dead or finally coming alive
My cold body seemingly defies
There was no fixing this heart of stone
Now it seems I’m no longer alone
Still I try to deny my rhythm song
Am I fighting, or just playing along?
My head’s in the space that lies between
The happiness and the terror unseen
You billowed my sails, away from that stormy cove
Where I held the wheel, but was demons that drove
This took a quick and drastic turn I know
But I hurt more than words could show
Now that I’m lifted out of that haze
It all seemed like such just a phase
In and out of that menacing quall
There’s some fight left in me after all
I leave the bones of demons behind
When up ahead, there’s more that I find
But what gets me through with a smile
Is to hold your hand, let it stay a while
You have your own battles to fight
We fight them together, this is our plight
It’s a bittersweet, nothing left but memories
You speak of my smile, truly a sight to see
But it’s not my smile, it’s actually yours
You hide it so well, but I asked for more
So we ditched the standard grins we use for pictures
And found honest ones, to become our fixtures
You found me, turned this sad song into a happy one
I know in my heart, this is a sign of things to come
