I took that walk thru the forest of redemption
I followed a trail and saw normal people
However, I wasn't one of them
At that time, I was like that hamster on a wheel
Running in circles with the dark side
Dodging the law
Everyday I could be found in a pool hall
Consorting with the cons, crooks and druggies
I continued on that trail
When I did come to a lake I saw my reflection
And in the same light, I saw a thug
That wasn't for me, my piece of pie
I'm more of an admirer of nature
Rabbits, squirrels and singing birds
That's what I wanted, being normal
Seeing the light, seeing the forest
Instead of being on the dark side
Being behind the eight ball
During those years, I wasn't a blossom
Seven years shady under a fruitless tree
That was my spill and spiel
I walked away
I walked away from that sad song
And treadmill
Who cares about a fast buck
... and knowing where I was ...
I much rather be a slow deer

I chose to run, but had I stayed, things would have been like Poetry Contest
