I Wait
Shadows of yesterday can eclipse reality;
but in hope lies my dreams;
mired in doubt and frustration, I'm left waiting.
Waiting for love's elusive touch,
I indulge in sexual pleasures,
but it's never enough; my heart craves more;
so I wait.
When desire suddenly morphs into lust,
love gets consigned to dreams;
for it means I am lost
and left hoping
for a better tomorrow;
so I wait.
Failure deflates my inflated ego,
allowing time for thoughts to gestate.
And I realize trust is essential for love to exist;
happiness can't thrive chained to tears;
so I wait.
It doesn't help to cry when I'm feeling hurt;
for this, too, will pass;
and I'll do what I've always done;
wipe away my tears, and wait.
My whole life has been spent waiting;
waiting for that perfect someone, the right moment,
the time, the inclination, and the willpower
to do something, but I don't;
so I wait.
