I Say This Poem To You
I say this poem to you
from outside the cell of every tortured or executed political prisoner
I say this poem to you
from outside the palace where Allende shot himself
I say this poem to you
from outside the limousine where jfk was assassinated
I say this poem to you from the balcony
where mlk was assassinated
I say this poem to you
in the ballroom where robert kennedy was assassinated
I say this poem to you
from the bedroom of every abused child
I say this poem to you
from every wasted night where
loneliness, misery, and hate
occupies the human spirit
I say this poem to you
in the hopes that one day
people won't have to write these poems
and people will learn the meaning
of the word peace.
