I Hear You

I hear your shallow breathing Groans and sharp inhales Of oxygen through your teeth Wet shoes at the 7-11 and the Chinese Zodiac I hear, “Can I get a room key?” Slamming doors and slapping skin More groans and one more door Then ours I hear, “She’s better than you,” And “I’m tired of hearing about it,” And, “You leaving was the best thing “To ever happen to me.” So when you sit there Telling me I’m the woman of your dreams And that I shouldn’t believe what I am hearing I hear you
