Home Just Prior To a Five Star Hotel Stay
Books strewn on the living room floor
Some library, some owned
Waiting to be read
Drink recipes on the mid-modern coffee table
Mostly Tequila based
Waiting for other ingredients to be purchased
Monthly bills sitting on the couch
One overdue maybe?
Waiting to be paid
Succulents - much too dry
Can they really die?
Waiting to be watered
Eclectic art on the wall
A portrait of Chuck Close- he is
Waiting to be straightened
A Valentine’s Day card from months ago
Glitter side up on the slim desk for small spaces
Waiting to be placed in the box for special cards
Empty containers -- all lids off--
Ready to be filled
Waiting to organize life
The five star hotel room
It will be perfect – like the photo
Minimal, clean, with all living areas condensed
No books, no plants, no old holiday cards
Freedom from all that defines
I can’t wait--
To get home!
