Heartbeats

Can you hear my heartbeat To the sound of little feet Running around me meowing Like a cat or barking Can you hear my jilted fears Pealed away like green pear skins Rebuked by real and imagined sins Flipped like a pancake drenched in syrup Then like a cowgirl in stirrups Ridden past green trees and tumbleweed Until the heartbeats aren’t tumbling Into the abyss of a denied kiss I can hear it in my ear Strong steady ready for what comes Will you be the mystery mahogany inspiring My hearts beating all odds Humor me and sing a melody Share and care dare to be Red bleeding heart on a sleeve

how wonderfully you've captured the feeling and need for companionship and love...and with such detail. I especially liked these lines: Will you be the mystery mahogany inspiring My hearts beating all odds Nicely penned...have a great evening, hugs, Sara

Karen, you wonderfully express the anticipation and longing we feel for love and companionship. The images are easy to imagine and create a sense of joy and disappointment that come and go so quickly. It's remarkable how you can condense so much experience into a compact form that feels like a barrel ride or watching breakfast cooking. You're making me smile inside.

Kind of you to share! I feel actually it is my weakness that I often only write shorter poems! I think I get bored perhaps A.D.D. and can’t go longer like many cool poets do! So thrilled to know you smile inside!
