Hallowe'En

It was Hallowe’en all saints night then When the spirits were about to frighten And we dressed to scare right to the end Walking the neighbourhood with friends It was trick or treat with sweets for all With each house increasing our haul We came to the last house on the street As the front light came on making the scene complete The knock brought an old man out And trick or treat we did loudly shout The old man smiled and produced a piece of candy each He put the candy in our candy sacks within reach At the end of the night we went home Quite pleased with ourselves in our fright night roam I saw that the old man’s candy was old and hard And the next day his house was abandoned with weeds in the yard. © Paul Warren Poetry
