White Lilies, by Suzette Richards - image generated.
In this Suzette sonnet I have relaxed the demarcation of the caesurae in the couplets and opted for conjunction and natural caesurae instead. Also, I have ended line 12 with an additional liquid consonant '-le' (which is often to be found in classic sonnets). It is obviously written using the poetic device, PERSONA.
Suzette is a girl’s name of French origin, meaning lily. It is the diminutive of Susanna, a character from the Hebrew Bible Book of Daniel. In Hebrew, Susanna, means Graceful Lily. In the apocryphal Book of Tobit, Susanna courageously defended herself against the wrongful accusation of adultery. She was saved by God through Daniel. White lilies grew in the Biblical city of Susa in Persia. In France, the national symbol of the lily is the fleur-de-lis.
