"Gospels"
Gospels are lost on a god
words are never hidden
under rocks
unturned stones
for the hiding
Poets caress swords
a legend firm in their hearts
undrawn they hold it out
as victor for witness
and target, practice
to fall on love
brutally genteel
Excalibur
intentions
the falling
welcome
unwelcome
always hard
never soft,
covered in gun powder
talcum, soothing
the unsoothed cowards
awake,
the mirrors reflect
small signs of life stirring
after a death, longing the lost stolen
eventually reclaimed, gently cradled
Gospels are lost on a god
those who read words
behind screens
that are hidden
follow the gates swinging
arrive
at a god’s sword,
it’s a kind of a heaven
a kind of a blessing
dark-nighted shading
the sun scorched by moon's relief
what’s taken -
the communion,
a bonding
between
god and their child
delivering
a body of words
a kind of eucharist
served best
by voice, by tongue
consecrated by blood
never forgotten, forsaken
early is best
never late
in the mourning
the missing
one word -
solid sworn,
promise, not a warning
Gospels
are lost
on a god
warring
words as swords
words
are never for hiding
swords are keys that fit
to Bedlam
and part-way back
A god whispers
you the word,
“Home”?
"Love"?
you think
it’s like some
foreign treasure,
like finding forgiveness,
a needle in a haystack
gospels
are lost on a god
the key is unhidden
always revealed
in the abstract

“She is so naked and singular.
She is the sum of yourself
and your dream.
Climb her like a monument,
step after step.
She is solid.”
Anne Sexton
“And we are magic
talking to itself,
noisy and alone.
I am queen of all my sins
forgotten. Am I still lost?
Once I was beautiful.
Now I am myself”
Anne Sexton
“Every day I've got a smile
where my frown goes
A couple bodies in the garden
where the grass grows
I take 'em with me
to the grave in a suitcase
Maybe I could be
a different human
in a new place”
Halsey
“My God is a poet
singing me home
with their
genderless pronouns,
sticky love like blood
tar the tears in my eyes
the black heart is fixed on,
feeling the sum of the parts,
communion is served
best without -
heavy armour
worn gospels,
the insides torn,
turned out.”
Anonymous (unhidden)
“I am not a woman,
I'm a God
I am not a martyr,
I'm a problem
I am not a legend,
I'm a fraud
So keep your heart,
‘cause I already got one”
Halsey
