First Fall
It seems somehow very appropriate
on this bright and shiny first Fall day
to reflect upon truth's relative weight
that may be found in the words that we say.
I just now passed a group of students
in discussion in the school's parking lot.
I heard loud words and wild exclamations,
and extremes which really contained not
a bit of truth, except, the emotion,
that could honestly be found within.
I thought, "I've had that same conversation
long, long ago", spoke with the same passion.
The difference now, my words are accurate,
but passion is gone as of this late date.
