Empty Nest
When the last one leaves,
and you sit there and grieve;
When you know that the time has come,
and both you and they are long from done.
You've given your very best of home training,
but deep inside your soul, your parental heart is raining.
You remember their first day of school when you had
no choice but to let them go. You turned your body with
a bit of discretion, but your eyes were set, locked, and frozen
in your child's direction. Perhaps with few exceptions, you, like
millions more have been on a quest for an empty nest. Well,
your nest is empty now, and indeed, you are happy to be free,
but you never realized how difficult it would be. You and your
spouse often look around and walk through what seems now
to be a larger house that is as quiet as a mouse. Be advised
that in an empty nest, you might often lose track of this and that,
but in many cases, they often come back. It's time now to realize
that they are really gone, but you'll always keep in touch over the
telephone. And remember that you have done your very best. Now,
it's time for you to simply stress less and let go of all the rest.
