Listen to poem:
D-Day the 6th of June by Robert J (Bob) Moore © 2019 It has gone down in history, that grey and cold June morn and for many a brave soldier, this would be their last dawn they knew that they would do the job, but the worry on each face meant letters written, goodbyes said, but only “just in case” For this day was the 6th of June in nineteen forty four D-Day, the hope to bring an end, to death, and blood, and war. This conflict, which consumed the world, for five long, fearful years was now reaching its conclusion, in the blood and sweat and tears this day would write new history, of hero’s, death, and fear the fury and the power, and the sound no one should hear or things which in their wildest dreams, their mind could not conceive many marched into that fight, and many would not leave The beaches had been given names, Sword, Juno, and Gold and Omaha and Utah, it was terror to behold the allies stormed onto each beach, on that fateful day in June to rid the world of a tyranny, and many died too soon We all should remember, what happened on that day to be sure it will not happen, while free men have their say that tyranny will never raise its terrible head again and no future family, will know that sadness and that pain. by Bob Moore (c) 2019
