Curtains Are Drawn
CURTAINS ARE DRAWN
Curtains are drawn yesterday,
A hushed silence, floating in the room's
Empty space,
Thoughts remain unspoken,
A group of people in shock, following
Procedure like clockwork, feel
Their furrowed way through
The devastation of an ended life.
Later will come the sombre pageantry,
For now the family's human grief,
Played out with quiet dignity.
She, who held them together, is gone,
Leaving the ancient stage for another
To take her place, remembering
A faithful service to millions.
All enter the dark tunnel of mourning,
To respect with gratitude a gracious lady.
