CREATURES UNDERGROUND
Beneath the garden stone we search and find
A grim world where creatures there hide away.
In total darkness they are rendered blind.
Why do they choose this wretched place to stay?
Insects and spiders with much speed react.
Slimy molluscs, sluggish they slowly slide.
Overcrowding creates much close contact.
But why not live where there’s light far and wide?
Perhaps the world up there’s a risky place
For then they are exposed to all around
Where larger predators they have to face.
Maybe this is why they live underground.
After exploring, we replace the stone
And then leave their dark underworld alone.
