Confidently Me

I love you but I need to break free Unless you can allow me to be me, me, me, me, me! You are trying to make me live your dream Which puts me into a silent scream. Let me be who I am, your expectations are not mine. You are causing me pain, our love to me does not feel fine. You are torturing me, trying to change the real me. I am already whole, why can’t you please see? You want me to smile, and live your dreams all the while. I am not that kind of child, your expectations are wild. The silent scream causes me pain, every day feels like rain. Please let me be! There is nothing wrong with letting me be me.

Such an important expression "let[ting] me be me." I think most of us have had to struggle for that right for most of our lives...at least I think so.

I did not even think about it until I was 28 years old, and then BAM it hit me - I should be me - after a close friend's sister was murdered and I thought "if they could murder her, they could murder anybody, and I do not want to die not living as me."
