Come With Me Please
I need someone to come with me she said.
To stand up for me, to explain my strengths.
That is your job, I told her. This is your thesis.
You have to defend it. You and only you.
But I do not think I can do it, she argued.
The rest of us shook our heads, knowing she could.
You have gotten this far, I told her. You almost have a masters.
Stand up for your thesis, stand up for yourself.
She left in a huff, upset that we would not go with her.
We should have gone, another roommate told me.
Another snowflake who has no idea about boundaries.
I began to clean, hoping for the best.
