Bird Talk
A bird sat in a tree
And looked down at me
And said rather musically “uh huh”
He cocked his head to one side
And then the other
Peering straight at me
I of course replied, “uh huh”
Imitating his spontaneous bird talk
He hopped back a step, surprised
Understanding, then answered back, “uh huh”
Delighted with our conversation
I replied with a friendly “uh huh”
I know our conversation is limited
But I’m happy to carry on
This inter specie dialogue
A connection, a shared moment
I’m sure he understands
Nodding his head in affirmation
Then he rattled on and on,
Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh
