Bear Witness, a New Year Comes
I come to visit again, silent bane,
to steal away your life with no remorse.
In stealth, I stalk to take away your gain,
perception of eternal youth now pales.
This yearly visit but to mark life’s course,
with every passing year, I tip the scales.
Forewarned, no earthly means may you resign.
Though young run free, unchained, time to defy,
time like a ghost unseen, is not benign.
Come raise your cup to toast the past and sing,
for times gone by my dear, for times gone by,
pause not for what tomorrow has to bring.
I come to visit again, silent bane,
forewarned, no earthly means may you resign.
