Away
Away
A damp day on dark streets
The sound of cars and splashing feet
The wind is cold, the sky is grey
With drops of rain in an alleyway
A shadow shape looms so discreet
Another follows in a shower of sleet
Their lives are shortened if they stay
Or if they choose to disobey
A fiendish figure comes out to greet
Their paths all cross in one short meet
They deliver their package sans fret or fray
But the look returned causes disarray
They will be followed should they retreat
But soon their choices begin to deplete
The man looks up and announces: “Hey!
I said no pepperoni for this buffet”
They should have known not to cheat
The man hated sausage meat
No second thoughts as they ran away
They’ll live to serve another day
