True story.
I remember it like yesterday
When the stick finally turned to blue
And I climbed back in bed, whispering:
“Love, our greatest desire has come true!”
Never have I felt so wonderful
Never sickness, just exultation
Those first fluttery kicks and movements
Like her first letter’s salutation.
My belly grew, but I didn’t mind
I had this precious cargo inside
And I dreamed of first words, steps and hugs
With emotions that changed like the tide.
Despite daydreams, I never could know
She exceeded all concepts of glee!
Long, thick, dark hair and eyes like the sky
I could never enough of her see.
She’s twenty-five now, a heart for all
As she fights for the down-trodden one
She never wants anyone in pain
Because she knows first-hand what it’s done.
See, my sweet girl has stage four cancer
Hair is gone, but those blue eyes still shine
We fight as a team, mommy and she
‘Cuz she’s always a baby of mine.
