Alone Again
There were scars that never healed
from wounds that ran too deep,
While mem’ries caught in nightmares
haunted each night’s poor sleep.
Tomorrow was still waiting
much further down the road,
Was lost somewhere in shadows,
under a heavy load.
Footprints suddenly appeared
underneath soft moonlight,
Seemed to come from yesterday
though no one’s left in sight.
Starlight runs the gauntlet held
by thunder’s mighty roar,
Ever hoping to return
but ne’er knowing what for.
Emptiness soon filled the void
absent fondness once knew,
Nothing more needs to be said
‘bout what’s between the two.
One now stands alone again
as from birth in a time,
Watching the lost promise fall
from all the ties that bind.
