Abyss of Loneliness

i sit here aside the lake grounded in thoughts alone the full-moon rising casts a lambent light on the watery stage where the orchestra of night normally plays there is no song falling off cricket's wings no cicadas of melody singing along the flowers stand tall for they cannot bow down to the final chimes in night's call when a breathless wind befalls around them i sit here aside the lake grounded in thoughts alone there are no echoes of footsteps to follow me through the confines of darkness or mind just a linger of thoughts and shadows that cannot speak back through the abyss of my loneliness

Sandra, such amazing imagery to set the tone for loneliness. No orchestra, no cidadas, no wind to bend the tall flowers, no echoes of footsteps in this fragile and vulnerable poem. Very nicely written and congrats in the contest.

Thank you so much...I think the original contest it was written for was to write about silence without using the word silent... hugs

This was a wonderful, if sad and lonely read. I loved the idea about the singing cicada's and crickets. When they are quiet, we are left with a sense of foreboding at times. Lovely pen...very sharp... Ann

The silence is often the hardest part, to listen and hear only our thoughts creates that unbearable pain of loneliness. Your poem beautifully expresses this theme and should quietly find its way to the top of the winner's list in this contest. Wonderfully written.

Thank you Chris... this one was harder to write then i thought it would be, to try and convey the silence without use of the word...your vote of confidence and kind words are appreciated:) hugs
