I took this photo of poppies in my garden, today. It kinda got me thinking...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wandered and pondered my bleak isolation As I slowly perused this wide open space That one cloud above me seemed, like me, quite lonely Its passage was slow as it matched my own pace And then I saw poppies so tall, red and bold I wished they were daffies in yellow and gold The lake in its vastness reflected the skies And sprinkles of sunlight beyond that lone cloud Peppered the ripples with myriad eyes And led me to feel like I walked with a crowd While unopened poppies stand tall with bowed heads They’ll stand even taller displaying their reds Could there be any more precious a day I all at once yearned to be no other place With sunlight and ripples and poppies that sway I found that a smile had enlivened my face For such a sight might make an old poet gay (Which one should interpret the old fashioned way) For oftentimes upon my old sofa lain I reminisce of all those poppies so red Their petals occur to me now and again But gold hues hold sway in my head Though poppies, that day, cleared my mind of its ills I still wish that they had all been daffodils

A fantastic poem, my friend. A true favorite for me. I like daffodils, but they come and go so quickly.

Poppies are very special to me, they remind me of my mother, who was born on Remembrance Day, and daffodils too because she was originally from Wales. Love the poem Terry and your poppies are beautiful… Beryl

Thanks, Beryl. It’s nice to have found something to write about… inspiration has been lean of late. So glad you enjoyed. Terry

Dear Terry, your serious reflections on poppies and clouds rival any humorous write you favor us with by offering us your posts. It's a fabulous wandering in your garden to ponder beautiful flowers and a lovely day. You can always plant yourself some daffies. ;-)

Aww shucks… Thanks, Lin. I truly wasn’t worried that I’d failed with this… only that the gag was too obscure (it’s a risk we ‘humour’ writers run….. did I really just categorise myself?) HELP!… I NEED A SHRINK… As I said, Lin… I’m chuffed, either way ;-)

Terry, I feel the opposite of chuffed that you think you failed in this writing. Therein lies the success of your poetry. Don't you see... you are known for writing wonderful humor, and yet knowing this I found an equally expressive view of what you allowed me to see through your eyes. The sun shines as brightly on poppies as it does on any other flower. There is much more to you as a poet... Accept it!

O dear… did I fail dismally? This was meant to be a light hearted take on Mr Wordsworth writing a first draft of ‘I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud’… I’m chuffed that you liked what I wrote, but I wonder if my gag was a little less than obvious. HEY! You enjoyed it… I ain’t complaining ;-)
