A Distant Memory

Looking into your eyes, I see no reflection of me. Your gaze is shifting, not meeting mine. There is only the mist from a distant memory. Sadly, I know that will fade away with time. I struggle, wanting to say the right thing. I speak, but silence is all that I hear. My empty words have nothing to bring. And my voice may hint of my fear. Feeling unease at this moment. Reminds me of all that we have lost. My heart now knows the pain of torment. And I am resentful of the unnecessary cost. The face that I knew so well. Appears unfamiliar in the dim light. Your expressions had so much to tell. There is not one of them in sight. What once was is now gone. Love was painfully torn apart. After all that time, it just went wrong I had to save my shattered heart. One last look, and I turn away. I walk from the scene, head held high. There is no longer a reason to stay. This is my final goodbye.
